OpenJaw Travel Summit China 2017
The OpenJaw Travel Summit China took place in late October in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. The Summit featured a full day of content featuring 10 presentations, 3 roundtable debates and hours of networking.
The Summit welcomed over 200 attendees and over 30 airlines from across China and beyond. The conference is now a key event for OpenJaw in China to showcase OpenJaw’s capabilities in front of airlines of the fastest growing travel market in the world. The host airline for the event was Sichuan Airlines: Mr. Peiming Sun, Deputy GM of E-Commerce Department, Commerce Committee gave a fantastic presentation on their use of the t-Retail Platform and their implementation of true travel retailing. In addition to Sichuan, we had Hainan Airlines, Asia Miles, Travel In Motion, IATA, Digitas LBi, TravelSky, Adobe and Fjord/Accenture.
The overriding themes at the Summit were about digital transformation, airline retailing, customer centricity and technology. Just like the rest of the world, Chinese airlines are starting to embrace the world of travel retailing. Chinese airlines are now starting to understand that the primary need of an airline customer is organising a trip, not buying a flight. Chinese airlines are beginning to sell a full spectrum of offers related to the trip and by doing so, they provide convenience and value that ultimately enhances the customer travel experience
OpenJaw, we believe that the concept of ‘retailing’ is fuelling a revolution in how travel is purchased. It is clear that retailing in the Chinese airline business is still at the beginning. The role of digital transformation, technology and tools are the underpinnings of travel retail, and will speed up the adoption of retailing as the dominant mindset in aviation.
